The most recent reviews got it right - this place has delicious food that is cooked with love that you can taste.
The beef enchiladas had a very nice level of spice to them in the red sauce. The beef tacos were well spiced and delicious. We also had the chicken fajitas - they were filled with flavor and delicious.
Chips and salsa are ala crate and very tasty.
The food is very well priced. The ambience is quaint and casual. The outside of the building doesn't do the place justice. Or it does if you like a place that has a bit of a hole in the wall feel inside.
Eat here. You will leave glad that you did.
Good food, lots of it and friendly staff. I ordered the special, 3 crispy tacos with rice and beans. They make the tacos with fresh fried corn tortillas. Lots of hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese on top.
Chips and salsa was good as well
Definitely worth the stop.
You must stop and check it out! We left this morning without eating breakfast, so we wanted something quick and easy, but we didn't want "truck stop frozen food!" This place was right off I80, was clean and easy to get to. We ordered 1 breakfast burrito with sausage to split and they even cut it and wrapped them separately to go! It had eggs, hash browns, some onions and peppers but no cheese! Ask for cheese! It was so tasty, hot and fresh! The salsa was really good too! Nice, friendly service and a clean bathroom too! Doesn't get much better than this on a road trip!
Really good stop on I-80. Super clean and very friendly! The cheese enchilada wasn't very melted, but the combo plate and the salsa were really tasty. Four item combo for two people was a heck of a deal!
No idea why this place only averages 3.5 stars. Place is right off the highway next to a gas station and looks plain on the outside, but there is a lot of love in their food, and the inside is homey/decorated. Classic Mexican family restaurant.
Vegetarian and vegan-friendly. I asked them to modify their taco plate with nopales (cactus) instead of meat. No prob, no fuss. Pinto beans and rice as side substitutes. They also offered up a nopal salad.
Salsa and house made chips before our main course. Delicious. Total for lunch for 2 - $16 and some change.
Def patronize this place if you are passing through. Carla is a kind and hard-working server and host. Get off the highway and enjoy.
I was driving across I-80 recently through Wyoming and stopped at this exit due to snow and ice with periodic road delays. The host at the nearby hotel recommended Hacienda Mandez for breakfast. It was a great suggestion.
Hacienda Mendez is in what used to be a truck stop. It has plenty of parking for large vehicles. Their breakfast menu has a good mix of dishes from Mexico as well as typical American fare such as hashbrowns.
I had what most people would call Huevos Rancheros but they called it something else. Rather than pinto beans I opted for hashbrowns with my meal.
Mmmm Goooood!!!! Yes, I'd go back. This is a family owned jewel in the middle of nowhere.
Angie, the better half of Bob and Angie, was in need of some Mexican food. We were at work...driving across Wyoming. Problem! Problem? No way.
Angie remembered the existence of and how to get to Hacienda Mendez. This gem has truck parking and is in Wamsutter, WY, just off of I 80. I love small towns, Wyoming has plenty. One thing that delights about small towns is the good chance to find independent restaurants that are serving great food.
Hacienda Mendez has charm, decorated in an inviting rough, tin and wood covered comfort. They have a full bar and a large, varied menu.
Angie went Mexican. Her flauntas were from well seasoned chicken and fried crispy as is her strong preference. We enjoyed the salsa, a must to give a full throated approval for a Mexican restaurant. The warm crispy chips were a pleasant surprise.
I went of the grid so to speak. I called on the deep end of the menu. I ordered spaghetti, at the Hacienda. How did that go? It was one of the best plates of pasta I have had. The marinara and meat sauce was superb. In Wamsutter they teach al dente! Pasta was firm, fresh not too soft as is so often the case.
I highly recommend Hacienda Mendez. The food prep has been above criticism in our two visits. Service good. And the environs are warm and comfortable to match the local...it's not Manhattan, it's Wyoming.
Quaint little place out in the middle of nowhere!!!!!!!!Authentically decorated. Cleanest ladies room EVER!!!
$7.00 burrito ~ husband says it great. Spicy the way he likes it!
This is a Diamond in The Ruff.
Excellent breakfast and Service.
All 4 meals cooked perfect to our taste.
Lots of parking and this place is in the middle of no where.
I have COPD and do not smell any cigarette smoke. Smells nice and clean. Love the speedy service and I reccomend this place to eat.
Super clean Restroom
Thank you for being here
What a pleasant surprise . I stopped drowsy from I-80 and here is this beautiful inside oasis! Great service of wonderful NY Cheesecake with the coffee I needed to perk up. Mexican interior, neat, clean, made me feel re-energized for the long trip ahead. Sorry I had wasted my money on lunch at Little America rather than holding on for here
Pretty sure I have the right place. Has a gas station and big red CAFE sign on the front. Great food in the middle of nowhere Wyoming along I80. Crappy's in Rawlins doesn't open until 8 so we hit the road early and had the pleasure of finding this place. Actually had looked on GPS for a restaurant but when we got to it, it was out of business so we saw this on the way back to the interstate. Sure glad we stopped in.
Had Great service - even by the owner (I think) as he had just walked in as I held the door for the age before beauty guy LOL. He got us coffee & a menu right away. That was when we figured he was the owner.
Very friendly people and as a "reformed smoker", I never smelled tobacco smoke (that is why I am wondering if this is the same place).
Breakfast food came rapidly and there was a table of 8 young workers that had come in & ordered just before us. They were happy with their meal as were we. Everything was as ordered - even the OM eggs were not slimy. As another person posted - Great Spot to Eat and SO MUCH BETTER than a corporate truck stop type restaurant.
Reading the other reviews I wish we had been able to try the Mexican food. Will definitely stop here again if possible.
Great service and,
Some of the best, freshest and authentic Mexican food I have ever had.
Everything was made to order
amazing chili verde sauce on huevos rancheros and delicious tacos!
Will recommend every Trucker at Loves come across the street and eat here!
Will be back again soon, thank you!
A literal oasis in terms of food and service! They made me a plate of flour tacos as they call them half pork and have beef with rice n beans for $10.55 or a little less.
In a normal civilized area you'd say " Great service and a cheap price for way better than average texmex", but, given its location, that's an exceedingly bold statement.
You're gonna be happy!
WAmsutter is a truck stop town but this "Mexican-American" place is a shocker. Went there just to avoid all the corporate operations. Ordered the beef enchiladas with their hotter sauce and it was as good as, or better than the authentic Mexican places (where we are the only gringo's in the place) in the Denver area we frequent. Very fast service, pleasant waitress, clean rest rooms, a real find. Will stop there again just to support someone doing a great job!
Always love these folks...great food ...always so sweet ...
Awesome food. Great service. Made to order chips salsa and guacamole.
Service is great food is great might be a little on the pricey side but it is worth it
Love it good food and people
Breakfast was great. My husband had the chicken-fried steak I had tacos and hash browns. GPS drops you in the middle of the road this is the place that says Mexican American. Plenty of truck parking looks deserted but is very homey on the inside. Go on in and get something to eat or drink. Will be back Mendez family see y'all next time
Breakfast was amazing...plan to stop there on our way home to Oklahoma. Definitely worth the effort :)
Don't be fooled by Street View, this little place is quite a gem! I had the tacos with refried beans and rice which were delicious. Clean place with nice atmosphere.
Don't let the appearance fool you....service is great and food is delicious and affordable!! I'll be back for sure :-)
They had really good Mexican food - and American food too! I got the shredded beef street taco with rice and beans. It was so good! The tacos (it came with 6 one and a half inch tacos) were the perfect blend of spice, onions and cilantro, and beef. If the spice is a little bit too much for you, you can always ask one of the waiters for some sour cream. The beans had the perfect amount of cheese on them, and they were creamy and delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked, just that it wasn't too hard, and it wasn't too soft. They felt like clouds in my mouth. U definately recommend this dish!
I love the way it's decorated inside I absolutely love my dinner and my nice drink I can't believe it's right off of I-80 great place to stop
I found this Oasis just off i-80 at exit 173 -- glad I found it during my 10 HR break. Food and drink were good, I'm glad this place is tucked away; it is a real gem.
This place is a hidden osais, great food for a fair price! Nice strong drinks also for a fair price! Clean restrooms! Amazingly kind and friendly staff! I would recommend this place to anyone looking to relax and have a good time!
Steak ranchero is the best
